Basque food tasting in London and Dublin
The Ministry of the Environment, Planning, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government is being carried out an action plan to support the promotion of Rioja Alavesa and Txakoli wines, and fine food in UK and Ireland. Following the success of the Basque wine exhibition of past year in London, this year have been decided to repeat the experience enlarging the offer to fine food products, and addressing it also to a new market, the irisk market.
UK is one of the main wine markets of the world with more than 912 millions of litres imported every year. Moreover, it is the first destination of the Spanish exports in value (193 millions of Euros at the end of 2009) and the second one in volume (89, 4 millions of litres) Regarding food industry, although the British consumer opted more to the British fine food, the ethnic products consumption is experimenting a great increase. At the present time, there is a tendency to the wealthy food, and despite little cooking, the tendency is to cook quality products.
Ireland is growing market. Since 2000 anual growing was near 15%, but from 2005 on, the total increase was for less than a 4%. The forecast for 2014 is that the market will be similat to what it was on 2009, around 1.400 millions euro.
Concerning food, the trends in Ireland are similar to what they are in UK. Given the fact that these two markets are very important for our wineries and food producers, we will organize two different showrooms, one in London on the 14th June, and one in Ireland, on the 15th June.
Both exhibitions are open only for trade, for a professional public, that will have the opportunity of tasting wines from Rioja Alavesa and Txakoli, and also White Tuna, anchovies, Idiazabal sheep cheese, green-peppers and fine-pastry. There will be also masterclasses runned by Sarah Jane Evans and Patricia Langton.
Dates & place: Showroom: tuesday 14th June in London and wednesday 15th June in Dublin
Exhibitors: 26 companies from Basque Country
