Barnetegi experience: More confidence in speaking Basque

Annie and Alaina Gavica have recently returned to the USA from their barnetegi experience just two weeks ago. EuskoSare asked them to share their thoughts about their newly attained confidence in speaking Euskara.

Annie and Alaina Gavica are now back in the United States after spending several weeks study Euskara, the Basque language, at the Maizpide Barnetegi in Lazkao, Gipuzkoa.  A barnetegi is an intensive language school for studying  the Basque language.  The sisters are originally from Winnemucca, Nevada.  They are both currently students at Boise State University; Alaina is majoring in Mathematics and Annie in Spanish.  They both are in their second year Basque language classes at the university and are active in Basque culture, education and language organizations such as the Boiseko Ikastola and the Oinkari Basque Dancing troupe.

We asked the sisters about their experience in the barnetegi and then about the return home to the USA just two weeks ago.  They said while they have not yet used their newly enhanced language skills yet, they are certain however, that they will be able to use them soon.   They are extremely happy that they made the decision and effort to learn Basque.   Please see our interview with Alaina and Annie below.
