The dictatorship of General Franco

After the end of the Spanish war in 1939, a dictatorship was installed, which was established on the brutal repression of the defeated.
Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa were considered traitor provinces, and lost the regime of economic agreements which had been in force. Among other things, this affected their fiscal capacity and the preservation of the services they maintained in their charge.
