Role of Euskara
What does EGA stand for?
It stands for Euskararen Gaitasun Agiria. It is a qualification which
accredits knowledge of Euskara in both written and oral comprehension and
expression.
What does the exam to obtain the EGA consist of?
The exams are based on 3 parts:
1. Preliminary exam: the exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions, 75 of which must be answered correctly in order to pass the exam. The first 15 refer to a recording which is listened to at that time. One hour is then given to answer the remaining 85 questions.
2. Written exam: consists of four sections:
- Composition: two subjects will be given for the candidate to choose from to write a text of at least 300 words.
- Restructuring sentences: ten sentences must be restructured to complete other equivalent ones; partial sentences given as a reference will be used for this purpose.
- Synonyms: each of the ten sentences of the section contains an underlined word and the candidate must find an appropriate synonym for each of them.
- Written comprehension: after reading the proposed text the candidate must answer ten multiple choice questions.
3. Oral exam: contains two main sections:
- Oral comprehension test: it is carried out on the same day as the written exam. The candidate will have three minutes at the start of the test to read the five initial questions. They will then hear the corresponding text only once before answering.
- Oral expression: the candidate will have several minutes to give their opinion on a subject and to answer the questions they are asked.
