The Zazpiak Bat Reno Basque Club, founded in 1966, proudly presents a great month of special Basque events to celebrate, with the wider community, the Basque-American cultural heritage. The Zazpiak Bat Reno Basque Club with several Reno-based organizations, have joined forces to bring a vibrant, unique and complete repertoire of Basque events for the enjoyment of all, Basques and non-Basques, and for all ages.
The Basque Cultural Exhibit and Cultural Week have been funded by the Basque Government, Directorate for Relations with Basque Communities, and co-sponsored by the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno

Schedule of Events
Basque Cultural Exhibit November 4th-28th
From November 4th to the 28th: The Exhibit will feature traditional Basque dance costumes from all seven provinces of the Basque Country and photographs from the Basque homeland and Basque-America. FREE.
PLACE: Hallway gallery in the former Southside School, home to City of Reno Parks and Recreation offices, corner of Liberty and Sinclair (190 E. Liberty). Open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Basque Cultural Week November 12th-19th
Saturday, November 12:
Cultural Week Kickoff: San Martin Dinner Dance, our oldest community celebration. The event will feature traditional Basque music performances by Jean Pierre Etchechury from Fresno and Jean Flesher from Salt Lake City. Dinner and dance $30, dance alone $5.
PLACE: Louie's Basque Corner, 301 E 4th Street, with no host bar from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., dinner from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and the dance to follow.
Sunday, November 13:
Basque Rock in Reno! Berri Txarrak, an energetic trio from Lekunberri, Nafarroa, touring the US, will present their blend of hardcore, punk, and socio-political lyrics (in Basque), joined by local bands Chthonic Youth and Carramrod. Just $3.
PLACE: Record St. Café, 945 Record Street, 2 p.m. Please visit, Basque Rock Live.
Tuesday, November 15:
Global Market. A Basque booth will join a multitude of cultural displays offering information, food samples, and more during this International Education Week event. FREE.
PLACE: Pine Lounge in UNR’s Jot Travis Student Union, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Film screening hosted in conjunction with Reno's Great Basin Film Society. Two Basque short films and the full length "Spirit of the Beehive" (1973) will be shown. Only $4 members, $6 non-members and, of course, Free Popcorn!

Wednesday, November 16:
Children's story time! Please bring your children for great Basque stories. Schools are welcome.

Basque Dance Performance. Reno’s Zenbat Gara dancers will join Asha belly dancers and a Latin Salsa group in giving performances and dance lessons as part of UNR’s International Education Week.
PLACE: Pine Lounge in UNR’s Jot Travis Student Union (JTSU), 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 17:
Discover Bertsolaritza (Basque oral improvisational poetry). Presentation by Dr. Joxe Mallea, author of “Shooting from the Lip” (on sale at the event), and live performances by renowned bertsolariak (Basque versifiers); Jesus Goñi from Reno, and Johnny Curutchet from San Francisco, both recipients of National Heritage Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts –the highest US Folk Art Award.
PLACE: Office of the Commission on Minority Affairs, 50 W. Liberty, Suite 100 (Bank of America building, enter on Liberty). 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 19:
Week's End! Celebrate the conclusion of the Cultural Week with a day full of
performances, workshops, and fun activities, including dance, cooking, and
Mus (Basque card game).
PLACE: Horseman's Park, 2800 Pioneer Drive (off Skyline), 9:30 a.m-2:30 p.m.
