Introduction:
The Alkartasuna Basque Club was founded in January of 1990 to serve the Basques in all of Southwest Wyoming. Throughout the years, the club has constantly strived to preserve and promote the Basque culture and language. This has been done through social functions, as well as with formal classes. They try in every way to include the youth in each function so that they will be better aware of and proud of their Basque heritage. Each year, Olentzero pays a visit to the children, presenting gifts to each. They have a Basque choir that performs at masses, funerals, and other community functions. They host an annual Kultura Jaia each summer to bring their Basque heritage to their community. They also gather the children together for Basque dancing. Both young and old are invited to participate in language classes as well as in mus tournaments. Club members get together one day each month to celebrate a "Club Afternoon" in which some will learn new Basque recipes, others will learn or practice mus, discussions/language lessons will occur, dances will be learned and practiced and in the end, everyone settles down to a nice Basque meal.
