Eusko Ikaskuntza calls upon the third edition of ENE Saria, an award given to organisations who promote Basque language abroad

For the third consecutive year, Eusko Ikaskuntza- Basque Society calls upon ENE Saria. It recognizes entities outside of the Basque Country that have done an outstanding job in promoting Basque as a language. It is an ezcellent opportunity for all the organizations of the Global Basque Community that collaborate with the teaching and dissemination of the language. The deadline for candidates to submit their presentations is November 27th.

In 1948 Eusko Ikaskuntza- Basque Studies Society established the Basque Language Day which since has been celebrated yearly throughout the world on December 3rd. Determined to promote the language as part of a cultural heritage with an international reach, the Basque Studies Society presents organizations outside of the Basque Country the third edition of ENE SARIA, an award that is granted to the organization that has excelled the most by their work and their evolution in the dissemination, teaching, and promotion of the language.

The winner will be publicly recognized and will receive an iron and steel reproduction of the anagram designed for the ENE (Euskararen Nazioareko Eguna – International Basque Language Day) by artist Nestor Basterretxea.

Terms and Conditions

Nominations

  • Any organization outside the Basque Country that carries out Basque language promotional work. By promotional work we mean the spreading of the Basque language and its expressions: teaching, written literature, oral literature, cinema… and other creative work.

The Prize

  • The Prize consists of public recognition and an iron and steel reproduction of the anagram designed for the ENE (Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna - International Basque Language Day) Prize by artist Nestor Basterretxea.

Judges

  • A panel of judges designated by Eusko Ikaskuntza-Basque Studies Society will decide who the winner is.

  • The judges will take into account both quantitative and qualitative aspects, and any innovations in terms of promotional methods.

  • The judges may decide not to award the prize if it considers this should be the case.

Nominations Procedure

  • Any organizations interested in participating are to send EuskoSare (info@euskosare.org) a summary – that is not to exceed the equivalent of five 8 x 11 pages on their activities, in as much detail as they deem necessary for the judges to decide: date of foundation of the organization; history of its activities up to the present day; current activities on the Basque language; if appropriate, the number of students, publications and other similar information; awards and prizes obtained; etc.

Deadlines

  • The deadline to send nominations is November 27, 2008 at 24:00

  • The decision of the judges will be made public on December 3, 2008, the International Basque Language Day.

Incidents

Any incidents in the organization of the prize will be dealt with within EI-BSS.
