International Center for the Basque Diaspora
This project hopes to be a multi-service center located where the town
hall of Ascarat will have its new offices.
It has also been proposed to be a reception hall for Uda Leku, an
association which manages all the Basque immersion youth centers of
Iparralde,
On the first floor of the castle, which is to be completely renovated, are plans to house the several services offered by 8 Probintziak Elkartea and EuskoSare. A proposal was also made to provide space for the Euskal Argentina association, so that it can manage a genealogical research center there in order to take advantage of the knowledge gained from the Basque diaspora.
It will also include a space for multi-media resources in order to perform genealogy research. This will keep up-to-date information on the events of the Basque communities throughout the world, to be used for conversing with family within the diaspora, as well as for the citizens of Ascarat, so that they can take advantage of the services specific to the topics which relate to the diaspora.
A space will also be devoted to EuskoSare, since this building would not have any sense of direction without it.
The 8 Probintziak Association also will continue to work on its goals, in
particular, on
the creation of a play based on the history of the migration of the Basques
throughout the world, in collaboration with the theatre du Versant from
Biarritz.
It will continue to carry out its research of Basques isolated throughout
the world, and will use this space to provide optimum tools for the
broadcasting of 8 Herrialdeak Zuzenean which will broadcast the first Sunday
of every month
On the last level of the building, 200 m² will be allocated for lodging, not only to accommodate families of the diaspora who wish to return to the land of their ancestors, but also to accommodate summer camps and school camps, whose lesson plans will focus on the migration of Basques throughout the world.
