Basque Activities at the Universidad Nacional of La Plata
In 1994, an agreement was signed by the Basque Center Euzko Etxea of La Plata, the Federation of Basque Entities in Argentina (FEVA), and the Universidad Nacional of La Plata, which gives rise to the creation of the Department of Basque Free Thought. This agreement formalizes the creation intentions which had already been put forward before.
From its creation, an attempt was made to find place for those who are distinguished in their academic and/or professional work, as well as institutions, University directors, and important figure heads from the Basque Country who visit our country.
As it is an extracurricular department, the activities focus on academic fields that correspond to the subject chosen. It has been present in the following departments: Humanities, Fine Arts, Architecture, Engineering, Law, Economics, Natural Sciences, and Museum. In addition, they have been in activities organized by the Extension Secretary of the University.
This academic activity is complemented with art exhibitions (painting, sculpture, and photography) that have been carried out in locations provided by the University.
A special space is offered for researchers, the teaching staff of the University of La Plata as well as Universities from other parts of the country, and the Universities and academic entities of the Basque Country.
In addition to this project, an agreement was signed in October of 2004 with Eusko Ikaskuntza – Society of Basque Studies.
